Gwen will be holding two workshops at Fashion-Knit on Saturday October 1.  Call or email the store to sign up for one or both.  Promotion:  Enroll and pay for both of Gwen's classes by September 24 and get any class offered by our in-house fashion-knit instructors FREE

 

Helps & Tricks for the Intermediate Knitter

3 hours. Saturday, October 1 - 10:00am - 1:00pm, $50
So you have some knitting under your belt and you have arrived at that nebulous level of intermediate. How do you move on from intermediate to advanced? Do you have questions but have never quite found the right class to ask them? Are you sure the advanced knitters know something you don't? If so, this is the class for you. We will provide a variety of helps to helps to take you knitting to the next level and along the way provide some tricks that you may not have thought of yet.
 

Homework - None
Supplies - 1 oz of light colored worsted weight yarn such as Cascade 220 and size 8 or 9 knitting needles.

 

 

The Hole Truth - Basics of Lace

3 hours. Saturday, October 1 - 2:00pm - 5:00pm, $50

If you are intrigued by lace, but fear the complexity, this is the class for you. Lace looks complex (and can be) but some of the most beautiful patterns are actually quite simple. We will start at the beginning covering the terms yarn over and yarn around needle, explaining the different types of decreases and working through the basics. We will also provide an overview of lace charts and tips for dealing with more complex patterns. Open up a "hole" new world of knitting for yourself to enjoy and enter the world of lace.

Homework - None
Supplies - 2 oz of smooth light color DK or worsted weight yarn (wool preferably) and needles appropriate to yarn

 

Bio & Philosophy

Gwen Bortner is a Craft Yarn Council Certified Teacher and is accredited by the Association of Knitwear Design in both teaching and design.  Author of Entrée to Entrelac, she teaches knitting at venues throughout the country, has been published in a variety of knitting magazines and is the lead designer for her business, Knitability, LLC.

 

Gwen’s vast teaching experience allows her to translate her in-depth knowledge into clear, concise, effective instructions making techniques attainable for any knitter who is interested in learning.  Discussion of not only the how, but the why help empower knitters of all levels to take lessons learned and apply them to other projects and techniques.
